Finding activities to do in the fresh air away from crowds is the way to go. Pick-your-own farms offer social distancing in the sunshine. Plus, they’re an educational and entertaining option for families with bored kids.
In our previous article, 8 places to pick your own strawberries in driving distance from Birmingham, two u-pick farms listed are closed this season (noted below). As the growing season continues, check back for what’s available for self-picking. (Hint, blueberries and peaches are up next!)

Be sure and call ahead or check their websites/Facebook pages for when U-pick days are happening. Dates and times change rapidly according to weather conditions, how much product is available, and social distancing precautions.
Several postings have mentioned that the cooler days have caused the berries to ripen more slowly. The trend this year seems to be that U-Pick options will be closed several times a week to allow berries to further ripen.
