Fresh Air Family April events are set to bring the Birmingham community together as a family through nature.
From nature walks to its beloved Gross Out Camps, Fresh Air Family continues to bring young children and their families outdoors. Even my children have enjoyed attending Gross Out Camps two years in a row!
Now celebrating 15 years, the Fresh Air Family has a host of events already scheduled. Here a few for the month of April:

Alabama Wildflower Society-Payne Lake
Come see the native plants found at Payne Lake in the Oakmulgee District of the Talledega National Forest.

- Date: Saturday, April 17, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
- Event Cost: Free
- Parking: $3 per car

Orienteering at Oak Mountain State Park
The sport of “orienteering” engages all ages to use an accurate, detailed map and a compass to find points in the landscape. Although it can be a competitive sport, it is also enjoyed as a walk with family/friends in the woods. To register and receive a start time for this challenging and fun event, visit the Vulcan Orienteering Club here.

Date: Saturday, April 17, 9:00 am – 12:00 pp
Event Cost: $10 ($6 per map, $2 e-stick rental fee, $1 for map, $1 for whistle)
Important: Must register and pay online here by 6 p.m. the Friday. Money will not be taken onsite.
