Fresh Air Family April events are set to bring the Birmingham community together as a family through nature.

From nature walks to its beloved Gross Out Camps, Fresh Air Family continues to bring young children and their families outdoors. Even my children have enjoyed attending Gross Out Camps two years in a row!

Now celebrating 15 years, the Fresh Air Family has a host of events already scheduled. Here a few for the month of April:

April Events with Fresh Air Family

Alabama Wildflower Society-Payne Lake
Come see the native plants found at Payne Lake in the Oakmulgee District of the Talledega National Forest.

Travel:

You may travel to Payne Lake on your own or meet Linda Sherk (she will be in a red, Tacoma pickup) at the Summit Shopping Center at 9:00 a.m. in front of Trader Joe’s. The group will meet Ida and Charles Gleaton at Payne Lake at 10:00 a.m. in the picnic area parking lot. Bring a snack, water, bug spray, and walking sticks if needed. Charles and Ida Gleaton have invited the group to a late lunch at their home (3201 Argonne Forest Lane, Duncanville, AL 35456). Orienteering at Oak Mountain State Park
The sport of “orienteering” engages all ages to use an accurate, detailed map and a compass to find points in the landscape. Although it can be a competitive sport, it is also enjoyed as a walk with family/friends in the woods. Event Cost: $10 ($6 per map, $2 e-stick rental fee, $1 for map, $1 for whistle)
Important: Must register and pay online here by 6 p.m. the Friday. Money will not be taken onsite.
