Looking for something different to do this Halloween season? How about a creepy, silent movie about a mad composer who plays a huge pipe organ while a real-life pipe organ accompanies it?
Come on down to the Alabama Theatre for the 1925 version of ‘The Phantom of the Opera,’ accompanied by Tom Helms playing his original score on Big Bertha.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, Lon Chaney, Sr., 1925
Who’s Big Bertha?
She’s the Alabama Theatre’s Mighty Wurlitzer organ, and Tom’s pulling out all the stops (literally,**see below). Since this event is a fundraiser for the Alabama Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society (ATOS), the organization that services Bertha herself, it’s a great time for showing off!
**side note: The phrase “pulling out all the stops” originated from organ-playing, where it means to open up all the pipes and let out the loudest sound possible! Brace yourselves, people!
