Birmingham Children’s Theatre, operating from the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC), is one of the nation’s largest and most established professional theatre companies for kids.
Since 1947, BCT has brought the magic of theatre and educational art experiences to over thirteen million children. They bring their quality entertainment to young audiences through three theatre spaces in the BJCC; the 150-seat Dominick Studio Theatre, the Wee Folks Theatre (for ages 3-6) which has 250 seats, and their 950-seat MainStage Theatre.
Not only do they reach over 90,000 local school students in grades K-12 annually, but BCT On Tour, the only professional touring company in the state of Alabama reaches an additional 80,000 plus students a year across the Southeast. Educational programs for one-on-one instruction and training in theatre arts is available through BCT Players.

Tiny Tyke Tales
Featuring a new story every month, Tiny Tyke Tales is an interactive story adventure for ages 6 weeks through 3 years. Each session is only $5 per participant over 6 months old. Tiny Tyke Tales includes a 30-minute adventure through some of your favorite children’s books, followed by 30 minutes of creative play and exploration. Participants will meet in the Dominick Theatre at the BJCC. Stories begin at 10:30 A.M. See calendar for upcoming stories and dates here.
Sensory-Friendly Performances
Birmingham Children’s Theatre now offers special performances for children and adults with sensory sensitivities.
Accommodations at these shows include reduced sound stimuli, lower lighting, designated quiet areas and designated areas for standing/moving, ability to leave your seat and talk during the performance, and resource materials for visit preparation. Sensory-friendly shows can be bundled with season ticket packages.
Page to Stage
Are you ready to introduce your child to the magic of live theater? Get one adult ticket and one children’s ticket to a show at Birmingham Children’s Theatre FREE though Page to Stage programs at participating public libraries in the Birmingham area.
Page to Stage is an acting workshop for children between ages five and twelve. It’s hosted on select Saturdays and Sundays by members of the Junior League of Birmingham who use popular children’s literature to show kids how books come alive on stage. Not only do participating kids get two complimentary tickets, but they’ll also take home a free book. This event is completely free but you must register in advance.
