This is the second year that the Ave Maria Grotto in Cullman, Alabama is open during the Christmas season. Take a short drive to see the magic of Ave Maria Grotto surrounded by lights and Christmas music!
Located at 1600 St. Bernard Drive, SE in Cullman, The Ave Maria Grotto is a landscaped park that was once a four-acre quarry on the grounds of St Bernard Abbey. Brother Joseph Zoettl, a monk at the abbey is responsible for the creation of the grotto.
Over the span of approximately 50 years (1932-1961) Brother Joseph built over 125 miniature reproductions of some of the most world-famous religious structures and sites. Using discarded materials, he meticulously built the stone and concrete models into the wooded hillside of the area.
