This Saturday, May 23, join this adventurous group for a 5-mile hike along Hargrove Shoals in Bibb County to see the largest display of blooming Cahaba Lilies in the world!
Spread throughout the water, they bloom beautiful white blossoms in May and June, sometimes in such abundance it appears to have snowed in the river.

The rare Cahaba Lily can only be found in a few waterways in Central Alabama, Georgia, and South Caroline. It’s also known as the ‘Shoals Lily,’ and the ‘Rocky Shoals Spider Lily.’
This hike is rated “easy” and it’s recommended that you wear sturdy footwear and clothing that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty. It will be possible in places to stroll through the river and touch the lilies or inspect them up close.
Bring your own picnic lunch and a drink. Children seven years and older who are properly behaved and well-supervised are welcome. Hiking poles are recommended to provide additional stability, especially while moving about in the water.
To take part, participants should meet in their own vehicles at the McDonald’s near the Riverchase Galleria, 1731 US 31 in Hoover at 9:45 AM. Admission is FREE.
Social distancing guidelines will be in place. To read more about safety procedures, you can visit their website HERE.
