The 4h of July will come early to the city of Chelsea in 2020 as they proceed with the annual CityFest and the Big Kaboom, happening on June 27th, 2020.
This event will start at 5:00 PM in the grassy field behind Dairy Queen which is large enough to accommodate social distancing.
In years past, this has been the city’s biggest event of the year, featuring live music, food trucks, and fireworks. This time around, certain activities have been put on hold, including the inflatables, face painting, and the bike parade.

City administration feels a celebration is needed in 2020 to “help the community feel back to normal” and to boost business. Chelsea-based businesses will be setting up booths with no charge this year as the city’s “thank you” to businesses who have continued to serve the community through the pandemic.
Food trucks on hand this year will be both local and from surrounding Birmingham areas. A variety of choices will be featured. They will begin serving at 5:00 PM.
Music will be provided by Nacho Daddy and will start at 6:00 PM. Trotline will headline at 7:30 PM on the stage which will be moved into the center of the area to discourage congregating.
Head to City Hall for the fireworks finale, starting at 9:00 PM. KOOL 96.9 will be broadcasting the musical accompaniment so tune in to get the simulcast and enjoy the full show.
