6th ANNUAL MLK DAY 5K DRUM RUN

A merging of drumlines from schools and organizations in the Birmingham area merges runners and walkers to complete a 5K racecourse, or 1 Mile Fun Run for kids 12 and younger), to the beat of the drums. Each drumline will receive a donation to their band program from the Leftover Energy Foundation. Cost for registration is $40 at the event.

In honoring Dr. King’s legacy of giving to his community, the Carlos Chaverst Foundation will sponsor its 2nd Annual MLK Day FREE Gas Giveaway. ANNUAL MLK UNITY BREAKFAST AT THE BJCC
Gather with a number of city leaders for breakfast to reflect on the contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Organized by the Community Affairs Committee, attendees will enjoy breakfast at 7 a.m., a performance by the MLK Unity Choir and rapper “Killer Mike.” Tickets are $50 and may be purchased at the door. MLK DAY FOOD DRIVE FOR HALF-PRICE ADMISSION

As it closes out its popular Glow Wild lighting displays on Monday, January 17, the Birmingham Zoo welcomes the donation of any non-perishable or canned food item for half-price admission to the zoo. Enjoy the Zoo for only $8 (plus tax) for adults, $7 (plus tax) for senior citizens 65 years and older and military, and $5.50 (plus tax) for children ages 2-12 years old. Children under 2 are FREE. This drive supports the Zoo’s Community Food Bank of Central Alabama Food Drive
