Featuring a variety of colors, patterns, and combination displays, the Thunder on the Mountain show is approximately twenty minutes long and is accompanied by a soundtrack of popular music, inspirational songs, and patriotic favorites.
Vulcan Park and Museum made the following statement about the show on their Thunder On the Mountain webpage:
“We have faced many adversities this year, and invite all who are able, to join Vulcan in solidarity to celebrate Birmingham’s resiliency, patriotism, and pride.
In March 2020, we were shaken to our core with the onset of a pandemic. The sense of normalcy that we were accustomed to has since changed but one thing it cannot change is our ability is to rebound.
This period has given us an opportunity to reflect on the important things – family, friends, and freedom.
There is no better way to celebrate the people who have fought for us and risked their lives not only for our nation’s freedom but also during this pandemic.”
How to view the show:
- The show can be viewed from anywhere you can see Vulcan. Prime areas include Five Points South, Homewood, Vestavia, Mountain Brook, and the UAB campus.
- The Vulcan Park’s 10-acre grounds and parking lot will be cleared and close at 6:00 PM on July 4th to prepare for the show. There is no viewing area affiliated with the Park including the entrance to Vulcan Trail.
- Please adhere to the Jefferson County Department of Health and CDC guidelines regarding social distancing.
- You can view the show on WBRC Fox 6 News, which is the exclusive television broadcast sponsor for the annual fireworks show at Vulcan Park and Museum. The televised event will also start at 9:00 PM.
