It’s Farmers Market Season! From fresh fruits and veggies to plants and flowers, not to mention homemade goods like soaps and salsas, these venues are a great place to get the real deal. Here’s our list of 15 farmers markets in our area.
Most farmers markets have been open as essential businesses but hours may have been altered or changed. The shopping process has also differed with some going to online ordering and curbside pick-up only.

With guidelines lifting, there seems to be a return to regular operating hours with requests in place asking that the public continue to use appropriate social distancing and safety practices. Guidelines from the American Farmers Market Association are being acknowledged in many of the venues.
Here’s a list of local farmers markets in the Jefferson County/Shelby County area. Let us know if there’s one we need to add and we’ll continue to update!
Tuesdays:
West Homewood Farmers Market
160 Oxmoor Rd, Birmingham, AL 35209
Located in the parking lot of the above address
Runs in June, July, and the first Tuesday in August
5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
The market will open as planned on the first Tuesday in June with the following changes: reduced vendors to allow for booths to be spaced 10 ft apart, limited numbers of people to reduce crowd size, no sampling or touching of items before purchase, vendors will wear gloves and masks, patrons should stay with the people they traveled with, no kid’s activities, no pets, hand sanitizing stations will be available throughout the area. West Homewood farmers market states that “the CDC recommends that the public wear cloth face coverings, but this is not currently required unless mandated by government authorities.”
Wednesdays:
Vestavia Hills Farmers Market
741 Montgomery Hwy, Vestavia Hills, AL 35216
Located in the grassy lot beside Walgreens on Hwy 31
Runs from May 13 to August 26
10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Guidelines include one entrance and one exit, both at the lower end of the lot. Follow the directional signs. Guides will be available to help. Follow the one-way aisles to shop. If you need to return to a vendor, exit the market and re-enter rather than walking against the designated direction. Please do not arrive before 10 AM. Observe social distancing of 6 feet. Please wear a mask and gloves if you have them.
McCalla Farmers Market
4809 Bell Hill Rd., Bessemer, Alabama 35022
Located in the parking lot of Pleasant Hill United Methodist, next door to Zaxby’s

Pinson Farmers Market

Saturdays:
The Marketplace at Lee Branch

Located at the Villages at Lee Branch in front of the Carmike Theatre and Urban Home
Runs from May 2- end of September
7:30 AM to 12:00 PM–pick-up only. Visit HERE to order online.
Online ordering opens at noon on Mondays and runs until noon on Thursdays. All money should be exchanged online prior to Saturday. Secure a pick-up time online. Enter the pick-up line in front of Urban Home, park in front of the tent with the first letter of your last name displayed, and stay in your car. Open your trunk and your order will be loaded.
Hueytown Harvest Farmers Market
2066 High School Rd., Hueytown, AL
Located at Gilmore-Vines Stadium Park
Runs from May 2- September 26 RAIN OR SHINE
8:00 AM to 9:00 AM – Senior shopping
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM- Social distanced shopping for the general public
Physical distancing is encouraged at 6 to 8 feet apart. Touching the produce or other items for sale is not allowed until after purchase. All vendors will be wearing face coverings and sanitizing their hands between every transaction. Hand sanitizer is available at every vendor table. Remember to distance your chair set up as you listen to the live weekly music and enjoy lunch. No pets, no guns, no smoking per the American Farmer’s Market Association.
Bessemer Farmers Market
100 14th St. South, Hwy 150, Bessemer, AL 35020
Located at the Bessemer Rec Center
Runs from May through summer
8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Sidewalks will be marked off in 6 ft sections for lining up in front of vendors. Volunteers will be handing out and reviewing safety info with all customers. They request you have the correct change to reduce the handling of money. All vendors will be wearing masks and gloves and they encourage all patrons to wear them as well per CDC guidelines. Please do not touch any of the products. “Unfortunately, this will not be a social event as in past years. Stay tuned for further details as things are changing rapidly.” SNAP/EBT/Double bucks accepted.
East Lake Farmers Market
7753 first Ave. South, Birmingham, AL 35233
Located at East Lake United Methodist Church
Runs from May through October
8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
East Lake Farmers Market requests that patrons “wear masks and remain at least 6 feet apart from those around you unless they came with you.” Vendors will bag all items. Please do not touch the produce. SNAP/ EBT and double bucks accepted.
Valleydale Farmers Market

Now located in the lower parking lot.

Valleydale Farmers Market asks that patrons refrain from “touching the products, shaking hands, hugging, and also asks that no dogs be brought on the premises until further notice.”
The Market at Pepper Place
